For my personal site I wanted to design something that could hold up to modern day designs while looking bold and visually interesting. While I have a multitude of talents that I brought to bring this website together, at one point this was not how my website looked.
Having to create a notable name for my website. I ended up with CatChen Design. Given my name is somewhat long with it easily being confused with a million other Catherine Chen's, I had to think long and hard until it finally clicked. I want to be "CatChen" your attention. A bad pun to make me stand out.
While this site was originally designed as a "Coming Soon" site, it was the first website I had originally programmed and designed. While it worked as a good starting off point, the website wasn't responsive and it wasn't very visually interesting.
Starting off with the sketch, I wanted to use the "Cat" motif for my logo.
I ended up with 2 designs I really liked.
Final design for both, I ended up using the geometric cat since it felt more modern and less cutesy for the website.
Using the style tile from before and the logos created, I made a simple business card that would match for Catchen 2.0. However, later with Catchen 3.0 many changes were made however due to the similar colour scheme and design. The business card is still usable.
My second design had a lot more changes. However I felt the website didn't flow well and there were too many steps to get around anywhere.
I ended up reworking the entire thing after I found some terrible pain points in my website, as it took too many steps to work around the site and everything felt visually bland and dull.
Used: Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop for visual mockup and logo. HTML, CSS, Javascript & PHP for coding.
