Pixel Habit / Electrifying RPG

This project began as Electrifying RPG, the purpose of this app was to create an application that would promote energy saving. My idea was to gamify the process, by taking a role playing game concept, the user would have daily and weekly goals such as "Defeat the Phantom Electricity" (unplug unused devices) or "Earth Hour" (turn off all electronics for an hour).

This idea was later rebranded to be PixelHabit, a more general keep on task/goal application. Following similar ideas of daily and weekly goals.

Hi-Fi & Prototype

Wanting to have the system be bright and colourful, I choose a bright blue to create a sense of energy. I also choose to have a light blue for the background as many of the assets would have been hand drawn and fully coloured. While I wasn't able to fully finish the assets, it gives an idea on what visuals the design was going for.

Task-Flow

Rebranding

While the original idea was tailored for reducing electricity usage, it had its limitations and not much could be done on the app. The activities would become repetitive and little process could be made after a while. Taking the previous idea and widening up the topic, PixelHabit came to life. While there was "Habitica" already on the market, PixelHabit was designed to be more of a task management with generated suggestions rather than a checklist. While PixelHabit can't fully track everything a user does, an app such as this would have little benefit to the user if the user themselves aren't being truthful about their actions.

The step of rebranding was to create a new logo. I wanted to create a gaming aesthetic with simple art and flat visuals, however this didn't stand out and was not distinctive. Thus lead to the next variation of the pixel art, matching more with the name.

Pitch Video & Conclusion

It was fantastic seeing the other projects of the other classmate's ideas and videos; it was extremely humbling for this project to be voted to be Best Product Design and Original Screenplay of the class. This project really helped with thinking on how branding worked, how to create an interactive app that gamifies tasks. Looking into the future I would like to create a full design for Pixel Habit and maybe create an app for this project.

Disclaimer, extra assets used on the social media mockup and in parts of the pitch video does not belong to me, they were used as I was unable to create all custom assets for the completion of this project. This was made as a case study and a design exercise for Humber College.
